SHREVEPORT, La. – Shreveport Parks and Recreation is bringing energy and rhythm to the community with fitness instructor Jesse Lewis, whose passion for line dancing is helping locals stay active while having fun.
In an interview with KTBS 3 News, Lewis shared his unique approach to fitness, emphasizing the discipline and movement that line dancing can bring to people’s lives. “Basically, what I do is teach people how to stay fit using the order of line dancing and show them discipline through fitness,” Lewis explained.
Lewis holds classes three days a week at Southern Hills Park. His schedule includes sessions on Mondays and Thursdays from 4:50 p.m. to 6:50 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon. During these classes, participants learn various line dances, blending cardio, coordination and community engagement.
One popular dance gaining traction is “Boots on the Ground,” a routine that has been trending on TikTok. In the studio, Lewis demonstrated the steps, breaking them down into simple movements before getting everyone — including KTBS anchors Sydney and Alex Anderson —on their feet for a full dance session.
“Right, left, double right, then left, right, double left,” Lewis instructed, guiding the group through the first sequence. As the dance continued, participants added more steps, eventually bringing in the fan motion that completes the routine.
For those looking to join Lewis’ classes, he encourages new dancers to visit Southern Hill Steppers Line Dance Fitness Class on Facebook, where updates and information about upcoming lessons are posted.
