TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) —On Saturday, in celebration of Mother’s Day tomorrow, a group gathered for a walk along the canyon to help bring awareness for mental health.
Patricia Bernal and Challis Fernandez invited the public to join for a Mother’s Day walk at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the canyon rim trailhead off Eastland Drive.
Their goal was to reach the Perrine Bridge, handing out roses to mothers walking the trail along the way.
Bernal and Fernandez were also using this event to bring awareness to post-partum depression and anxiety, which Fernandez said isn’t talked about enough.
“Post-partum depression and anxiety, it’s a mental health issue, right?” said Fernandez. “And it goes along with any kind of mental health awareness, where we don’t want to have people that are for me, for a personal experience, I thought about suicide and all those scary things. So I think it’s just important to have conversations and let people know that they’re not alone.”
They’re also putting together care packages for new or expecting mothers to make post-partum easier.
If you would like to help donate, Bernal said to reach out.
“You could just get a hold of either one of us and let us know,” said Bernal. “So we’ll be taking all of our donations and putting the care packages together. So if they just get a hold of us, they could donate items or gift cards, anything that they think would go good in the package.”
Bernal also said to let them know of any new or expecting mothers to receive their care packages.
