Thomasville is now home to a cutting-edge outdoor fitness space, thanks to the National Fitness Campaign. Located in the heart of downtown at the Central Recreation Campus (205 E. Main St.), the new Fitness Court is officially open and free for public use.
The addition puts Thomasville on the map alongside over 500 communities across the country participating in what the Campaign calls “America’s Largest Public-Private Wellness Partnership.” With more than $100 million raised in public and private funds nationwide, the initiative aims to combat obesity and sedentary lifestyles by offering accessible fitness infrastructure, and Thomasville is now part of that mission.
Designed for users aged 14 and up, the Fitness Court is built for all abilities and fitness levels. Participants can move at their own pace through a series of bodyweight workouts, using equipment arranged in a sleek, modern layout. Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or just starting your fitness journey, the Court welcomes you — no gym membership required.
Users can also enhance their experience with the free Fitness Court App, available on iOS and Android. Acting like a personal coach in your pocket, the app offers guided workouts and tips to make the most of each visit.
Center Director Tommy Oliver, now a certified Fitness Court Ambassador, emphasized that the space is meant to bring people together and serve as a valuable wellness resource for the entire community.
Oliver has been an active fitness leader in the area, previously hosting sessions such as “Week 2 Fitness” at Doak Park, focused on lower body strength. He is expected to lead future programming and training sessions at the new Fitness Court.
