From a press release:
“Quadrangle Development Corporation and Capstone Development announced today that SWEAT DC, a dynamic fitness studio known for its high-energy group workouts and community-driven atmosphere, will open its fourth Washington, D.C. location at The Langston in Shaw. The studio will occupy 3,173 square feet of The Langston’s 13,835-square-foot ground-floor retail space, bringing its signature group training experience to residents and the broader Shaw community.
Founded in 2017 by Gerard Burley, SWEAT DC blends science-backed strength training with expert coaching, upbeat music, and a supportive atmosphere. The new location at 1818 7th Street NW, slated to open in January 2026, will feature Sweat Strength and Conditioning (SSC), the studio’s data-driven, personalized group training program tailored to participants’ fitness goals, and personal training options.
“We’re excited to welcome SWEAT DC’s high-energy fitness experience to The Langston,” said Christopher Gladstone, president of Quadrangle Development Corporation. “SWEAT DC is the perfect fit for our vision of offering accessible and engaging retail—a place where residents and the greater Shaw community can come together to prioritize health, wellness and connection in a supportive environment.”
“Shaw’s strong sense of community aligns perfectly with our mission to create an inclusive, motivating space where people can build strength, feel empowered, and grow—both inside and outside the gym,” said Gerard Burley, founder of SWEAT DC. “Born in Baltimore and a proud D.C. resident since 2008, I actually launched SWEAT just one block away back in 2016 as a pop-up studio, before opening our first brick-and-mortar location — so this really feels like a return to our roots. After losing my mom suddenly to congestive heart failure at 18, I dedicated my life to creating a healthier, stronger world and community. As a proud Black and gay-owned business, we know representation matters, and we’re committed to making fitness a space where everyone feels seen, safe, and supported. I’m beyond excited to come back to where it all began and serve the neighborhood that helped us get started. Our vision is to create a world where everyone is confident in their skin, and we can’t wait to bring that to Shaw — making everyone feel at home in the gym and helping them build strength, inside and out.”
