Joe Biden tells BBC Donald Trump is appeasing Russia
In an interview with the BBC’s Nick Robinson, President Joe Biden suggests President Donald Trump is appeasing Russia.
A small nodule was found in former President Joe Biden’s prostate following a routine physical exam, a spokesperson confirmed Tuesday.
The small nodule, which could refer to a wide range of things, necessitated further examination, but it was unclear if that had already taken place or what the outcome was, according to ABC News.
In February 2023, while serving as president, Biden had a cancerous lesion removed from his chest. He also had several non-melanoma skin cancers removed before entering office. All cancerous tissue was successfully removed at the time, the White House physician said at the time.
While specific details remained limited Tuesday, here’s what there is to know about nodules and what they mean if found in the prostate. Are they common, or could they mean cancer?
What is a nodule in prostate? Nodule definition
A prostate nodule is a raised hardness felt under the surface of the prostate, which is part of the male reproductive system about the size of a walnut. It can develop due to a variety of reasons, such as prostatitis and prostate cancer, according to MedicalNewsToday. The size of the nodule or having multiple is not clearly associated with the risk of cancer.
Nodule v tumor
A nodule and a tumor are both abnormal growths. A nodule describes a very small mass of cells, while a tumor refers to a larger growth. Doctors tend to use tumor when referring to cancerous growths, though they sometimes use benign tumor as well.
Is a prostate nodule cancer?
It doesn’t necessarily point to cancer, but it could be. If a doctor finds a nodule during a health check, they may recommend a biopsy to rule out cancer.
What causes prostate nodules?
It can develop for a variety of reasons. Here’s some of the most common:
Prostate cancer
When cells in the prostate gland start to grow uncontrollably. After skin cancer, it is the most common form of cancer in men — 1 in 8 will receive a prostate cancer diagnosis in their lifetime. It can be serious, but it is slow-growing and most men diagnosed do not die from it, according to the American Cancer Society.
Prostatitis
An inflammation of the prostate gland caused by a bacterial infection. Around half of all men will experience prostatitis at some point in their lives.
Prostate calculi
Prostate stones, similar to kidney stones, can be felt under the surface and are usually harmless.
