After crushing another year of school and exams, it’s now time to travel, whether it’s for pleasure, AU business, teaching, conferences or research or other professional purposes.
If you plan on traveling outside the United States and need to use Augusta University-owned equipment or access any AU IT resources, including your email, Box or any other Augusta University account, make sure you’re prepared.
To abide by AU’s International Travel Policy, the Division of Information Technology reminds faculty, staff and students that DUO International Access Request is required before you plan to travel.
Before your trip
You must submit both the DUO International Access Request and the International Travel Registry Form. Access from outside the U.S. is only permitted with prior approval.
International DUO authentication will be blocked without requesting access before traveling outside the 50 states and territories. Access will also be denied in the following countries: Cuba, North Korea, Iran, Sudan, Syria, the Crimea Regions, the Donetsk Region, the Luhansk Region and the Sevastapol Region.
Failure to submit this request before you travel means you will be unable to access Augusta University systems or applications, including email, Box, LMS/D2L and more.
As a reminder, places like the Bahamas, Mexico and Canada are not within the United States and will require international DUO authentication.
Complete and submit your DUO International Access request while planning your trip.
Here is a helpful pre-trip checklist for international travel, courtesy of the Research Security office within Ethics and Compliance:
- If traveling with an AU device such as a laptop, or if you require AU network access (i.e., for checking emails):
- Information you provided on the InfoED Travel Registry will be shared with IT who will conduct a review of the device and provide feedback.
- Submit a DUO International Access Request.
- If any portion of your travel will be paid by/through AU:
- Complete a Travel Authorization prior to travel.
- Supervisor and executive VP-level approval is required for international travel.
- Review by the Division of Sponsored Programs is required if any portion of the travel will be paid with grant funds.
- If your travel is related to an outside professional activity:
- Obtain prior approval from your supervisor for any outside professional activity via an OA-1 form.
- If any portion of your travel will be paid/reimbursed by an external entity:
- Update your conflict-of-interest disclosure to include all travel paid/sponsored by an external entity (possible exceptions include U.S. federal government and other U.S. universities).
