Although foldable phones are already a reality for brands such as Samsung and Motorola, Apple has yet to enter this market. Despite the advances of devices like the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and the Razr Plus, the Cupertino company has yet to release a similar product. However, rumors about a potential “iPhone Flip” persist.
Two visions for a possible future:
While competitors are focusing on screen innovation, Apple has chosen to prioritize other areas. Expect the arrival of the iPhone 16 in 2024 and developments in artificial intelligence with iOS 18. However, this does not mean that they have abandoned foldable technology. Various leaks suggest that they are proceeding cautiously. The clues don’t just point to a flexible iPhone. According to reports, Apple is exploring the development of foldable iPads and MacBooks. Although these projects face more technical hurdles, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo estimates they could be released between 2027 and 2028. Ironically, the phone could debut earlier than its larger counterparts, with some predicting 2026.
In July, another leak revealed that Apple had reportedly chosen a clamshell design similar to the Galaxy Z Flip with the internal codename “V68.” According to The Information, development has already passed the conceptual phase. However, other sources, including Kuo, describe a book-like device more similar to the Galaxy Z Fold with a 7.8-inch internal display and a 5.5-inch external display. These projections estimate the price to be between $2,000 and $2,500.
However, a major technical challenge remains: the crease in the screen. Although recent models have reduced its visibility, Apple will not launch its device until the surface is completely smooth to the eye and to the touch.
So, when will it arrive?
This wouldn’t be the first time a foldable iPhone launch was anticipated but didn’t materialize. For now, everything is still speculative. But one thing is certain: Apple is actively exploring this market and wants to succeed on the first try.
