After Sovereignty’s impressive win on a sloppy track at the Kentucky Derby, there was hope that this would be one of those rare years that horse racing would be blessed with a Triple Crown contender.
Those hopes were quickly dashed when it was announced that Sovereignty would skip the second leg of the trilogy (Preakness) and focus on the third (Belmont), sparking debate that the three races are too closely packed together. Would it help the sport to add more rest between races and increase the likelihood of a Triple Crown, or is that what makes the whole thing so tough — and special — in the first place?
We’ll save that debate for another time as we turn our attention to this week’s quiz. Yes, Sovereignty will be in there, but we hope you’ve been paying attention because there has been a lot more going on across the sports world.
