Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center is sharing a message about health advocacy for new moms this Mother’s Day. They offer nurse-midwives alongside their physicians to provide new mothers with improved care.Autumn Wendler began working as a certified nurse-midwife after feeling overlooked by medical providers during her own pregnancy. She said advocating for women and staying by their side during birth can improve their experience and also their health.She said her role is not just to care for the newborn, but also the moms who may be nervous about pregnancy, birth and post-partum recovery.”One of our big things is we’re really about you know patient empowerment and women empowerment and really making sure that we have good, in-depth conversations with what women want or expect out of the prenatal course and understanding that while we have these standards and recommendations,” Wendler said. “There is no one-size-fits-all.
