Notre Dame Law School adjunct professor Robert Gerberry ’91 has been elected President-Elect Designate of the American Health Law Association (AHLA), the nation’s largest educational organization devoted to legal issues in the healthcare field.
Gerberry serves as Senior Vice President, Chief Legal Officer, and Corporate Secretary at Summa Health in Akron, Ohio. At Notre Dame Law School, he teaches courses in corporate law. Gerberry earned his bachelor’s degree in Preprofessional Studies from the University of Notre Dame before obtaining his J.D. from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law.
As President-Elect Designate, Gerberry will help guide AHLA’s strategic direction, supporting its mission of education and professional development for more than 13,000 health law professionals nationwide. He currently serves on AHLA’s Board of Directors and is chair of the Governance Committee. He previously held other leadership roles, including serving as chair of the In-House Counsel Group.
“I am honored to take on this role with AHLA and continue contributing to the profession that has given me so much,” said Gerberry. “I look forward to serving the health law community while educating the next generation of legal professionals at Notre Dame.”
At Summa Health, Gerberry oversees a wide range of legal and operational areas, including legal, internal audit, compliance, governance, government and community relations, risk management, and protective and physician services, advising both the executive leadership team and board of directors.
Over the years Gerberry has provided experiential learning opportunities at Summa Health for ND Law students and supports the Health Law Society at Notre Dame through a partnership with AHLA.
Gerberry’s appointment highlights the strong connection between Notre Dame Law School’s mission and the broader legal community, as its faculty members continue to lead with integrity, expertise, and a commitment to the common good.
