POTSDAM —Sixteen local seniors shared laughs as they exercised and answered trivia questions about preventing falls while enjoying a game of bingo.
A new Bingocize program, open to adults age 60 and older, combine the classic game of bingo with health and wellness.
The seniors enjoyed doing light exercise to music, sometimes singing and laughing, in between trivia questions about health and safety and playing bingo May 12.
The free 10-week program is offered by the St. Lawrence County Office for the Aging, in partnership with Cornell Cooperative Extension. Trained instructors Kristine Demeter and Kristy Coyle, from the Cornell Co-op, lead the class.
“It’s a lot of fun. You exercise, play bingo and have a lot of laughs,” said Terri Rossi.
“It gets us out. Kristine and Kristy make us laugh. They are good at it. If you can’t do all the exercises, they provide you with an alternative. It makes you feel good,” said MaryWellings.
Bingocize started May 5, and meets on Mondays and Thursdays at 3 p.m. in the Community Room at the Mayfield Complex, 22 Mayfield Drive, Potsdam.
The next program will be offered in Ogdensburg in June. If interested, call the Office for the Aging at (315) 386-4730.
